Liturgy for Displacement

O Lord, I am once again not physically where I expected to be.
Because of war.
Because of disease.
Because of insecurity.
Because of elections.
Because of the brokenness of this world.
—
Why do You keep sending me to such difficult places?
My soul is weary from these continuous changes, transitions, and griefs.
I look around and see all the pain and brokenness and I am overwhelmed by the injustice.
What are you doing in this mess, Lord?
The mess of this world and the mess of my heart.
—
I feel guilty for having the means to leave a difficult situation and “evacuate” when others get left behind to survive the disease and the danger.
When will there be peace?
When will we all be able to settle down in this place You’ve called us to but we keep getting ripped out of it?
Then I also feel guilty for experiencing relief at not having to stay in the eye of the storm yet have the opportunity to rest in quieter waters.
If You are really all powerful, God, why are You withholding? Why do You let it go on?
—
Father, remind me of the truth that You rule all of the nations and we can put our hope In You, our help and our shield.
Holy Spirit, give me your supernatural peace and comfort to continue trusting You wholeheartedly, even when my emotions are strong and contradictory.
Jesus, grant me Your eyes to see where I can help and follow Your example of compassion, no matter where in the world You take me.
—
In the midst of uncertainty, in the world and in my heart, I am yet confident that I will see Your goodness, Lord, while I am here in the land of the living.
May Your kingdom come and Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
Amen.

Thanks Jaimie for the very soul-filled liturgy that is significant for so many cross-cultural workers around the world today. I trust God will continue to use you for His glory and the good of those you have been called to serve.
